Letters I’ll Never Send

Some letters are written to be posted…. These ones are written to set us free…

I’ve come to believe that writing is one of the most powerful forms of healing. Not because the person we’re writing to will necessarily read the words, but because we finally allow ourselves to say them. Some letters are written to people who have died. Some are written to people we’ll never see again. Others are written to younger versions of ourselves who deserved a voice when they didn’t have one. In truth, these letters were never really for them. They were always for us.

Writing has a way of reaching places that conversation can’t. It untangles thoughts, gives emotions somewhere to land, and allows us to release what we’ve carried for far too long. Whether it’s grief, anger, disappointment, gratitude, or forgiveness, putting it into words can be the first step towards laying it down.

This first letter is to someone who caused me profound pain. For a long time, I believed my healing depended on understanding him. Eventually, I realised it had nothing to do with him. It was about understanding myself. It was about discovering the wounds that accepted less than I deserved, finding my own voice again, and rebuilding the parts of me that I’d slowly abandoned.

I don’t share this letter because I need him to read it. I don’t need a reply, an apology, or closure. I share it because someone reading these words may recognise pieces of their own story, and perhaps realise they’re not as alone as they thought.

Forgiveness is often misunderstood. It isn’t forgetting what happened, excusing harmful behaviour, or reopening doors that should remain firmly closed. Forgiveness is releasing the hold the past has over you. It’s choosing your own peace over carrying someone else’s actions for the rest of your life.

This letter marks the end of a chapter—not because he changed, but because I did.

As you read it, you may think of someone you’ve been carrying in your own heart. If you do, perhaps it’s time to write your own letter.

You don’t have to send it, sometimes writing it is enough!

Dear Shane,

For a long time, I thought the greatest tragedy was meeting you. Now I know the greatest tragedy would have been never learning what you came to teach me.

Before I met you, I was happier than I gave myself credit for. I was wounded, but I was unaware of how deep those wounds truly ran. When you entered my life, you didn’t create them—you revealed them. And for that, I am grateful.

You did not break me. You wounded me. There is a difference. Broken things stay shattered. Wounds heal. Wounds become wisdom. Wounds become scars that remind us of where we have been and how far we have traveled.

The pain I felt because of you forced me into places within myself I had spent a lifetime avoiding. It made me sit with the little girl who never felt chosen. It made me face the father wounds I had buried beneath strength, independence, and survival. It made me ask why I kept accepting crumbs while calling them a feast.

You became the mirror I never wanted but desperately needed.

When you cheated, it wasn’t just about betrayal. It tore open a wound I had been carrying since I was twenty years old. A wound left behind by my first love. A wound I thought had healed but had only learned how to hide. The universe has a strange way of bringing us the same lesson until we finally stop running from it. This time, I listened.

I learned what a trauma bond feels like. I learned what love bombing looks like. I learned what gaslighting sounds like. I learned how easy it is to mistake being needed for being loved. Most importantly, I learned what love is not.

The truth that took me the longest to admit is that I never loved you the way I have loved before. I loved the potential. I loved the hope. I loved the future I imagined. I loved the version of us that never truly existed.

What I felt was attachment, investment, loyalty, and a desperate desire to make something work because I had already poured so much of myself into it.

I stayed because I was invested. Not because I was cherished. Not because I was safe. Not because I was deeply seen. I stayed because walking away meant admitting that all the energy, forgiveness, tears, and second chances could not turn a lesson into a destiny.

Today, I no longer need to make you the villain of my story. You were simply a chapter. A painful one. An important one. But not the ending.

I used to think healing meant finding someone who would finally love me enough. Now I understand healing means loving myself enough that I no longer abandon who I am just to keep someone else comfortable.

I am learning to stand alone. Not because I want to. Not because it is easy. But because I finally know my worth is not measured by who chooses me. For the first time in my life, I am choosing myself.

And one day, if love finds me again, it will not look like confusion, chasing, rescuing, fixing, or carrying someone else’s wounds while neglecting my own. A real man will not need me to mother his soul. He will already be doing his own work. He will stand beside me, not behind me and not on my shoulders. He will see my fire and smile because he recognizes his own. He will not fear my strength. He will honour it. Together we will build something that neither of us has to bleed to keep alive.

So today, I release you. I release the anger. I release the disappointment. I release the version of you I kept hoping would appear. Most importantly, I release the version of myself that believed she had to earn love by suffering for it.

Thank you for the lesson. Thank you for the mirror. Thank you for every wound that led me back to myself.

I forgive you. And I forgive myself.

For the first time in a long time, I am excited about the woman rising from the ashes of everything we were never meant to become.

Now I have closure and I hope you will have a beautiful life too, I truly hope you do……

Zoe

Blog post.

Welcome Home

If you’ve found your way here, I don’t believe it was by accident.

Whether you arrived because of one of my books, a conversation, a recommendation, or you simply stumbled across this little corner of the internet, I’m genuinely glad you’re here.

This won’t be one of those blogs where everything is polished, perfect, and wrapped up with a neat little bow. Life isn’t like that, and neither am I.

This is a place for honest conversations.

We’ll talk about healing, grief, trauma, love, relationships, boundaries, childhood wounds, spirituality, resilience, joy, getting older, finding purpose, and learning to come home to yourself. Some days the words may make you smile. Some days they may challenge you. And sometimes they may ask you to sit with parts of yourself you’ve spent years trying to avoid.

That’s okay.

Healing has never asked us to be perfect. It has only ever asked us to be honest.

I don’t write from theory alone. I write from experience. From the moments that broke me, the moments that rebuilt me, and the years I’ve spent studying the mind, body, nervous system, and the incredible ability we all have to heal when we’re willing to look inward with compassion instead of judgement.

You won’t always agree with me, and I don’t expect you to. My hope is simply that my words encourage you to become curious about your own life. Ask different questions. See old stories through new eyes. Discover that what once felt like your greatest weakness may one day become your greatest strength.

If you’re carrying pain, you’re welcome here.

If you’re rebuilding your life, you’re welcome here.

If you’re exhausted from pretending you’re okay, you’re welcome here.

And if you’re already thriving but want to keep growing, you’re welcome here too.

This space is for real people living real lives.

So make yourself comfortable. Read what resonates. Leave what doesn’t. Come back whenever you need a reminder that healing isn’t a destination—it’s a relationship you build with yourself, one honest moment at a time.

Thank you for being here.

I hope, in some small way, these words help you remember who you’ve always been.

With love,

Zoe 💕
